Colleges Cutting Back

I came across an interesting Time article that listed various colleges and strategies they are implementing to cut costs: http://www.time.com/time/printout/0,8816,1921613,00.html .

This really made me think of how easy it can be to cut costs.
For example: PITZER COLLEGE will keep $80,000 by power-washing sidewalks and windows once, instead of twice, annually.
For as little of a loss as that is, $80,000 is a huge amount of money that could be put towards scholarship money.
Solutions such as this seem much better than saving money by cutting courses or academic programs.
One particular "solution", however, didn't seem worth it: BRYN MAWR COLLEGE saved $900 when its women's swim team held a virtual meet against nearby Dickinson; each team's swimmers raced in their home pool, and then they compared times to declare winners.
I would much rather see cuts like the one at Carleton College, where the administration cut four times that amount by skipping the shrimp and wine at faculty parties.

Were there any particular cuts that you found interesting? How about any you found unnecessary, or any you thought went too far?
