Please feel free to write about your interests and knowledge. The most exciting blog conversations build on these. We have some amazing people in this class with diverse backgrounds. Maybe everyone should write an entry that introduces themselves and their interests to the class?
I guess I'll start things off with a brief introduction.
ReplyDeleteI am a senior, majoring in French Language & Literature and International and Area Studies. I spent nine months in Clermont-Ferrand, France, so I have a pretty good understanding of the language and culture.
Additional areas of expertise: I've also studied the German language and culture for many years, though have fallen out of practice. I've kept up with computers and technology to a good extent so I have a good basis of knowledge on such subjects.
As some of you may have noticed, I would consider myself on the far left of politics, and attended in France (as part of my ICRP) a number of meetings of Le Nouveau parti anti-capitaliste (the New Anti-Capitalist Party). So there's an idea of the mindset I approach these matters from.
I suppose I'll introduce myself as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm a freshman, and I intend to major in philosophy (maybe with a double major in creative writing).
For a long time, though, I wanted to major in international studies, with a concentration in East Asia. This was probably the main reason I started reading the economist, a wonderful magazine which has kept me well informed about world events. I also studied Japanese for a time(I just got done with Japanese 301 last quarter), though I've never been able to study abroad.
As for my political/economic views, I'm firmly independent. I try not to simply adopt the opinions of others. Instead, I try, in as unbiased a manner as possible, to consider what logic and available evidence point to when forming my beliefs. I do my best to consider the opinions of others objectively and to subscribe to the beliefs of no individual, group ideology, unconditionally.
I am a sophomore who is double majoring in polisci and german. I used to live in Pakistan for four years, and also lived in Germany for a year. I learned to speak German by being an exchange student in high school. I applied to Germany for study abroad next year. I like to play/watch hockey and play in the kalamazoo city league.
ReplyDeleteI am pretty spontaneous and like to travel a lot. I am not really a member of either political party, I vote for who I think will do the better job.
Other than that, I took this class because I am interested in understanding a bit more about economics due to what is going on right now in the United States and world.
